AHS Winter Concert

Updated: Dec 14, 2019

You’re cordially invited to the Arlington High School (AHS) Winter Concert at Lowe Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on December 13. Always a highlight of this time of year, the event will feature ensembles led by instrumental music director Sabato ("Tino") D’Agostino and choral works under the direction of Mara Walker.

Sabato ("Tino") leads the AHS Symphony Orchestra in a rehearsal for the 2018 Winter Concert

Selections from the instrumental program include “Chant and Jubilo” by Francis McBeth performed by the concert band and conducted by Berklee student intern Santanio Jackson as well as a violin concerto written by graduating senior Liam Barthelmy performed by the honors orchestra, with the composer as violin soloist. Tenor Chandler Betts (’21) will reprise his Town Day performance of “Sway” by Juan Pablo Ruiz accompanied by the jazz band, and the symphony orchestra will present the allegro from Mozart’s Horn Concerto in D, featuring soloist Liam Nokes (’21) and Tchaikovsky's dramatic Marche Slave.

The choral repertoire will include “The Longest Time” by Billy Joel performed by Bros II Men, the AHS men’s chorus directed by Gregory Condakes, and the AHS Chorale will offer the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, arranged for chorus by Jeff Funk. The madrigal singers will offer “Bogoroditse Devo” from All-Night Vigil by Rachmaninoff and Bella Voce, the women’s choir, will present Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Visions of spinning dreidels will dance in your head when the concert choir offers “S’Vivon, and the combined choral and instrumental ensembles will wrap up the program with an all-time favorite: Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”

Free and open to the public, this concert, performed in the key of holiday magic, will surely help to make the season bright.
